PLEIN AIR PAINTING ADVENTURE … 3 DAY EVENT … 11th, 12th and 13th January 2024

AT LIBBY WITCHELL'S GLENALADALE PROPERTY - 'GRANDVIEW'.

Those of us who attended the three day Plein Air campout had a lovely time. Three days on Libby Witchell's property at Glenaladale was a feast of views, art, and meeting new friends along with socializing with old friends. it was lovely to meet  Libby's talented daughter Bridie, who has obviously inherited the family genes from Libby. She regaled us with tales of her home in the Northern Territory which we enjoyed immensely.

Libby was so generous with her time and expertise, we were in very safe and experienced hands.

Day one started out with a panoramic warm up exercise involving charcoal and mixed media, working from Libby's studio balcony, which is an old converted shearing shed. The weather was warm so in the afternoon we sheltered under some shady trees, and painted another of the fabulous views of Libby's property and finished up the afternoon in her studio.

It was great to see some day trippers like Jean Wilson, Steph and Rose along with Oi Lin Bold.

Day two we trecked down to Moulin Gorge on a property owned by Libby's neighbor Mat. It was a bit of a challenge going down, but the gorge was worth it in the end. We had to unload  some art supplies on the way down, (feeling like Burke & Wills on a desert treck) because we had overestimated what we needed and could carry so far. Lots of laughs and watching for wildlife, kudos to all the older particpants who made it there and back with some excellent paintings.

Day three we spent some of the time driving through the property collecting interesting bush bits to use as rubbings and inspiration for the artwork. Finishing with Bill's family recipe of boiled fruit cake and tea, which was very welcome. Then came the evening around the camp fire and the excellent camp oven dinner.

On behalf of those who attended and the Bairsdale and District Art Society I would like to express our thanks and gratitude to Libby for a lovely experience. Thanks also to Bill and his camp oven dinner, what a cook.
